I feel immense pleasure in putting my thoughts and experiences into this book. I have been working with rural women since 2000 and grew my learning and perception regarding the drudgery they live in, facing extreme subordination and violence, and trying to understand how and what makes them more deprived in social structure, economics, and cultural systems. The region I represent is considered one of the most underdeveloped regions in Maharashtra, and it has created social issues mostly connected to the lives of women. Patriarchal norms are so stubborn that the Human Rights of women and LGBTQA are denied, resulting in social issues like Child marriage, declining sex ratio, dowry, and honour killing. I extend my gratitude to Manavlok Social Work College for supporting such a vibrant subject. I am also grateful to the Manaswini women’s project situated in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra state for enriching my experiences and giving me an opportunity to associate with them in the endeavour of addressing issues of women in rural Marathwada. I am also thankful to the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission for granting a Research project entitled Study of Female School Dropouts and Challenge of Child Marriage in Marathwada Region in 2019. The other chapters in the book also focus on the violation of the Human Rights of women, raising different issues of gender discrimination, which correlate with an interconnected chain of undignified conditions against women: the statements and the observations discussed in the book concern the studies carried out in the particular area.
